Driver fatally strikes 60-year-old woman crossing Broadway in Midtown, police say

A woman's life was tragically cut short when she was struck down by a speeding SUV driver while crossing Broadway in Midtown last night. 60-year-old Wendy Davis, a resident of Forest Hills, Queens, was walking east on the street just before 9 p.m. when the Cadillac XT6 SUV veered into her path as it attempted to turn left onto Broadway.

Despite having the right of way, police say Davis's life was lost after she sustained severe head and body injuries from the collision. She was rushed to Mount Sinai Hospital where she sadly succumbed to her wounds.

The 61-year-old driver who caused the crash remained at the scene but escaped accountability, with authorities saying he had not been arrested or charged in connection with the incident.

While one life has been lost, this tragedy highlights a disturbing trend of traffic fatalities in Midtown. So far this year, three pedestrians have perished on these streets, and while there has been some reduction in overall crashes, many more lives are still at risk every day.

man that's so senseless ๐Ÿค•... can't even walk across a street without getting hit by a car ๐Ÿš—๐Ÿ’” it's like people think the rules of traffic don't apply to them or something... and what really gets me is the fact that the driver wasn't even arrested ๐Ÿšซ they just drove away from the scene and are now free to do it all over again... it's like we're not taking pedestrians seriously enough ๐Ÿš—๐Ÿ˜• need more changes in our traffic laws ASAP ๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™‚๏ธ

can't believe they didn't catch the driver ๐Ÿ™„... I mean, the guy was lucky he wasn't charged or anything. what's going on here? 3 people already killed this year and nothing is being done about it. it's all so frustrating ๐Ÿ˜ก. we need better safety measures on these streets, like more cameras or something. I'm not saying they should be everywhere, but a few would help prevent stuff like this from happening again... RIP Wendy, that was senseless ๐Ÿ’”.

๐Ÿšจ๐Ÿ’” Another senseless loss of life on our streets is just heartbreaking. Can't believe the driver got away with it too...it's like they're just invisible behind the wheel ๐Ÿ™„. I mean, we know NYC can be tough and crazy, but do we really need to pay the ultimate price for that? ๐Ÿ˜ฉ I'm all for being aware of our surroundings while walking, but come on! Can't we at least have some basic traffic rules and respect for human life in this city?! ๐Ÿš—๐Ÿ˜ก The numbers are staggering - 3 pedestrians already lost this year, it's just too much. We need to keep pushing for safer streets and better enforcement of traffic laws. ๐Ÿ’ช This tragedy won't be forgotten, and I hope we can make some real change soon ๐Ÿ‘Š

man... what's goin' on with this city?! first it was that new bike lane they opened up in Central Park and now another pedestrian gets taken out by a driver who just can't seem to follow the rules ๐Ÿค•. I remember when I was a kid, we used to have those old-fashioned traffic cops standin' on the corner, yellin' at you to slow down. Now it's like nobody cares about anyone but themselves ๐Ÿš—.

and it's not just this one incident, it's these three in the past year alone... what's the deal? Can't we get some real action taken here? We need better traffic safety measures, more cameras on the streets, and maybe even a 'pedestrian-first' zone or somethin'. It's like, yeah, I get it, we all wanna drive fast and get to our destination quickly, but can't we do that without takin' someone else with us? ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™€๏ธ.

ugh, just saw the news about that poor woman who got hit by an SUV driver last night ๐Ÿšจ๐Ÿ˜ฑ can't believe the driver didn't even get arrested or charged... it's like, what's going on?! ๐Ÿค” traffic fatalities in Midtown are getting way out of hand and people need to start taking this seriously... 3 pedestrians already lost their lives this year and we're still seeing more deaths every day... something needs to change ๐Ÿš—๐Ÿ’จ

Wow ๐Ÿคฏ this is just so senseless ๐Ÿ’”. I mean what's going through that driver's mind when he's like speeding around the city? 60+ years old is not getting any younger, you know? ๐Ÿ˜ฉ. It's crazy how some people think they're above the law or something. Shouldn't they be held accountable for their actions? ๐Ÿš”๐Ÿ’ธ. This guy should at least get a ticket... I don't even know what else to say, it's just really sad and frustrating all over again ๐Ÿ’”๐Ÿ˜ก

Man, this is such a shockin' thing that happened last night ๐Ÿค•. You gotta be careful when walkin' around Midtown, it's like they're just tryin' to speed by everyone all the time ๐Ÿ’จ. I mean, 60 years old, what's the rush? ๐Ÿ˜ฉ Wendy Davis was just tryin' to cross the street and now she's gone. It's like, can't we do better than this? ๐Ÿš—

And to think that the guy who did it got away scot-free...no charges, nothin'? That's just not right ๐Ÿ’”. I know we're all human, but come on, if you hit someone, you gotta own up to it and pay for your mistakes ๐Ÿ˜Š.

We need some more safety measures in place around here, like more crosswalks or traffic lights that actually work ๐Ÿ•ฐ๏ธ. We can't keep losin' people to these senseless accidents. It's just not worth it ๐Ÿ’”.

๐Ÿ˜” This is so senseless. A 60-year-old woman's life was cut short by someone else's reckless driving. It's not just about the driver, it's about how our streets aren't designed to prioritize pedestrians. Broadway in Midtown is already a busy area, and with all the traffic that comes with it, we need better safety measures in place. ๐Ÿšฆ

I'm also thinking about Wendy Davis's family and friends who are now dealing with the loss of their loved one. It's not just about numbers or statistics; it's about human lives that were lost unnecessarily. We need to do more to protect our pedestrians, especially seniors like Wendy.

It's disheartening that the driver wasn't held accountable, but I'm sure this incident will spark a change in how we approach traffic safety in Midtown. ๐Ÿš—๐Ÿ’ก

I mean what's going on with our roads lately? ๐Ÿš—๐Ÿ˜ฑ You're getting hit by SUVs left and right and no one gets held accountable! 60 years old, just walking across the street, trying to get home... that's not even a threat, you know? And then this guy turns into her path like she's invisible. What even is the point of having traffic laws if people are gonna ignore them like that? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ It's getting crazy out there and we need to do something about it, but so far, no one seems to be stepping up. This city needs some serious TLC when it comes to safety. And 3 fatalities in Midtown already this year? That's just unacceptable. We gotta take a closer look at how our roads are being managed and make some real changes. ๐Ÿšง๐Ÿ’จ

๐Ÿ˜” I'm just so sad for Wendy's family... Losing someone so young is never easy. My heart goes out to them during this incredibly tough time. It's just not fair that she had her whole life ahead of her and it was cut short by a split second. ๐Ÿ’” The fact that the driver who caused the crash wasn't held accountable is just frustrating. We need more safety measures on our streets, especially in busy areas like Midtown. Three lives lost already this year is just too many... ๐Ÿš—๐Ÿ’€

can u believe that the driver just got away with it? like what even is the point of having a right of way if no one's gonna hold ppl accountable for their reckless driving? this whole thing is super messed up ๐Ÿšจ and I'm not buying that it was just an accident... something fishy went down here. we need to start taking pedestrian safety more seriously, not just slapping some fines on ppl who break the rules ๐Ÿค‘

Ugh, another tragic incident on Broadway ๐Ÿšจ๐Ÿ˜ฑ. I'm just so frustrated with the lack of accountability for drivers who put innocent lives at risk. 60+ years old and she's still got to deal with this kind of danger? It's just not right. And what's with the driver not even getting a ticket or arrest? It's like they think they're above the law ๐Ÿ™„. We need more measures in place to prevent these kinds of accidents, especially in busy areas like Midtown. I'm all for improving bike lanes and pedestrian infrastructure, but we also need to hold drivers accountable for their actions. It's just common sense! ๐Ÿ’ก

๐Ÿšจ๐Ÿ˜ฑ what's goin on here? 60-year-old woman just mowed down by a speeding SUV driver and the guy gets away scot-free? like, no charge or arrest? that's crazy ๐Ÿคฏ this is exactly why we need better traffic laws and enforcement in Midtown... like, how hard is it to follow basic traffic rules? ๐Ÿš—๐Ÿ‘Ž and 3 pedestrian fatalities already this year? that's just unacceptable ๐Ÿ’” we need more cameras, more witnesses, more accountability for our roads... anything less is just not enough ๐Ÿ˜’

Ugh what's goin on here?! 60yo woman killed by some idiot driver in broad daylight? The fact that the dude who caused the crash got away with it is just ridiculous. Doesn't he know how reckless his actions were? I mean, come on! He had the right of way and still manages to take someone's life.

I'm so fed up with these traffic fatalities. Three lives lost already this year and it's only May... We need better safety measures in place, like more pedestrian crossings or even just some basic common sense from drivers. Can't we do better than this?! The whole city is affected by these incidents, not just the victim and their family. It's time for change

ugh man I'm so sad to hear about Wendy's tragic loss ๐Ÿค• my heart goes out to her loved ones... 60 is way too young to be taken away from us. you just gotta think about the drivers out there who don't care about other people's lives, like that guy in Midtown who didn't even stop at the scene ๐Ÿšซ it's crazy how some people just don't seem to value human life. anyway, I hope Wendy's memory will help bring more awareness to pedestrian safety and get those reckless drivers held accountable ๐Ÿ’ก

Wow ๐Ÿš—๐Ÿ’” This is such a senseless tragedy. The driver who caused the crash could've avoided it if they just checked their mirrors and signals properly ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ. It's crazy that someone's life was lost due to such a preventable accident. We need more pedestrian safety measures in Midtown, like those traffic calming zones and improved street lighting ๐Ÿ”ฆ. The city should also consider increasing police presence on Broadway during rush hour to catch speeding drivers off guard ๐Ÿšจ.

I cant believe what's happening to our city ๐Ÿค•. This is like, so senseless! One minute she's walking down the street, living her life, and the next she's gone ๐Ÿ’”. The fact that this driver wasnt held accountable for his actions is just crazy ๐Ÿ˜ก. I mean, you're driving down Broadway, you gotta be paying attention, right? How hard can it be to see a pedestrian trying to cross the road?! ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™€๏ธ

And yeah, this is like, the third time this year we've lost someone to these streets. It's like, how many more people have to die before something gets done?! ๐Ÿšจ We need better traffic safety measures, like those fancy crosswalks and cameras to catch reckless drivers ๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™‚๏ธ. This is just not okay, we gotta do something about it ๐Ÿ’ช

๐Ÿšจ๐Ÿ˜ฑ just saw the news about Wendy Davis and it's heartbreaking ๐Ÿ’” 60 yrs old is way too young to go! ๐Ÿ™ anyway, did you know that NYC sees an average of 2,142 traffic fatalities per year since 2015? ๐Ÿ“Š 2020 had a record low with only 1,256 fatalities, but then increased by 34% in 2022 ๐Ÿšจ. and it's not just about the number, it's also about the cities most vulnerable pedestrians - seniors & young kids ๐Ÿค• according to NYC's own data, 75% of all pedestrian fatalities are men, and the majority (62%) occur between 6 am and 7 pm when more people are walking to work or school ๐Ÿ“Š. we need to do something about this! ๐Ÿ˜ญ
