A woman's life was tragically cut short when she was struck down by a speeding SUV driver while crossing Broadway in Midtown last night. 60-year-old Wendy Davis, a resident of Forest Hills, Queens, was walking east on the street just before 9 p.m. when the Cadillac XT6 SUV veered into her path as it attempted to turn left onto Broadway.
Despite having the right of way, police say Davis's life was lost after she sustained severe head and body injuries from the collision. She was rushed to Mount Sinai Hospital where she sadly succumbed to her wounds.
The 61-year-old driver who caused the crash remained at the scene but escaped accountability, with authorities saying he had not been arrested or charged in connection with the incident.
While one life has been lost, this tragedy highlights a disturbing trend of traffic fatalities in Midtown. So far this year, three pedestrians have perished on these streets, and while there has been some reduction in overall crashes, many more lives are still at risk every day.
