SheWolf’s Anthony Lombardo readies to open Medusa in Detroit - Detroit Metro Times

A New Chapter for Detroit's Midtown: Medusa Cucina Siciliana Set to Open in Historic Space

In a neighborhood known for its culinary experimentation, a new restaurant concept is ready to take the stage. Located at 664 Selden St. in Detroit's Midtown, Medusa Cucina Siciliana is preparing to open its doors, marking the latest addition to a building that has seen its fair share of short-lived eateries.

The historic space has been home to a revolving door of concepts, including Smith & Co., Vigilante Kitchen + Bar, and Epiphany – Nain Rouge Kitchen. But with Medusa Cucina Siciliana, chef Anthony Lombardo and his team are poised to bring a fresh perspective to the neighborhood.

As the co-owner of popular Italian restaurant SheWolf Pastificio & Bar just a block away, Lombardo is no stranger to Detroit's food scene. However, Medusa will serve up a distinctly different culinary experience, with dishes inspired by the cuisine of Sicily and the broader Mediterranean region.

"When it comes to our menu, we're going for simplicity," Lombardo told Hour Detroit magazine. "We're using traditional ingredients like olive oil, capers, olives, tomatoes, and anchovies, but we're not afraid to put our own spin on things." By focusing on the unique flavors and traditions of Sicily, Medusa aims to educate diners about the rich culinary heritage of this often-overlooked region.

With a renovation underway by Patrick Thompson Design, Medusa is expected to open its doors in late December or early January. As the space undergoes a transformation, fans of Lombardo's work can look forward to an immersive dining experience that promises to transport diners to the sun-kissed hills and coastal towns of Sicily.

For now, the buzz surrounding Medusa Cucina Siciliana suggests that this new restaurant concept is one not to be missed. With its unique blend of traditional flavors and modern flair, Medusa is set to become a standout addition to Detroit's thriving food scene.

🍝 The recent announcement of Medusa Cucina Siciliana's opening in historic Midtown Detroit has piqued my interest 🤔. As someone who appreciates the rich culinary heritage of Italy, particularly Sicily, I'm excited to see how Chef Anthony Lombardo will interpret traditional flavors with a modern twist 🌿. The emphasis on simplicity and using authentic ingredients like olive oil and capers is a great approach, especially given the often-overlooked nature of Sicilian cuisine in mainstream dining scenes 📚. A well-executed concept could not only elevate the local food scene but also provide an immersive experience for diners, transporting them to the Mediterranean region through flavors and atmosphere 🔥.

I'm so excited for Medusa Cucina Siciliana to open in Midtown! 🍝 As a parent, I love that Anthony Lombardo is drawing inspiration from his own Italian heritage and sharing it with the community. It's always great to see local chefs putting their own spin on traditional dishes.

I'm also curious about how they'll educate diners about Sicilian cuisine – my kids would love learning more about different cultures through food! 🤔 Let's hope they have some fun activities or events planned for families, like cooking classes or workshops. It could be a great way to introduce them to new flavors and traditions.

I'm sure Lombardo's team will do an amazing job, especially with the renovation by Patrick Thompson Design – it sounds like a real gem of a space! 🏠 Fingers crossed that Medusa becomes a staple in the neighborhood, offering a delicious and authentic taste of Sicily to everyone who tries it.

Using traditional ingredients but putting their own spin on things is a great way to keep it fresh and exciting for diners. And I love that they're aiming to educate people about the rich culinary heritage of Sicily - it's all about sharing the love, you know? 😊 The buzz around Medusa Cucina Siciliana has me hyped for late December or early January opening - can't wait to check it out and see what all the fuss is about! 🤗

OMG 🤣, I'm so hyped for Medusa Cucina Siciliana! Who knew the culinary world needed another Italian place? 😂 But seriously, it's cool that they're bringing some authentic flavors from Sicily to our neck of the woods. I mean, have you ever had real deal Italian food that's not just pasta with marinara sauce? 🤔

I'm also loving that the chef is putting his own spin on traditional dishes. Like, who doesn't love a good caper or olive oil infused masterpiece? 🥗 Sounds like we're in for a treat! And the renovation by Patrick Thompson Design? 🔨 That's gonna make the space pop!

Opening in late Dec or early Jan? 😜 Bring it on, I'll be there with my stretchy pants and a major food coma. Let's get this Sicilian party started! 🎉🍝

This is exactly what we need in our city - investment in local businesses and historic spaces! 📈 It's like the mayor said during the last budget meeting: "We can't just keep relying on new developments in Midtown, we gotta support the ones that are already here." Medusa Cucina Siciliana might be a small business, but it's gonna bring in tourists and locals alike, which is exactly what this neighborhood needs to boost its economy. And let's not forget about the job opportunities for our Detroiters - Anthony Lombardo's team will be creating new employment paths for people in the community. By supporting local businesses like Medusa, we're voting with our wallets and saying that we care about our own city's growth and development.

OMG u guys 🤯 Detroit just got even better! A new Italian spot in Midtown? Yaaas please! I'm low-key excited for the renovation, it's gonna be so sick 💯 Can't wait to try out Medusa Cucina Siciliana and get my pasta fix 🍝👌 Anthony Lombardo is a genius, his team is gonna kill it over there! And omg the menu sounds soooo good with traditional ingredients but also some modern twists 😋 I'm all about trying new things and this spot is gonna be a game changer. Mark my words, Medusa will be a fave spot in no time 💖

🤔 I'm low-key expecting Medusa Cucina Siciliana to flop in Midtown. The neighborhood is already saturated with trendy restaurants, and it feels like every other new spot is just a rehashing of what we've seen before. Plus, Lombardo's got a history of success at SheWolf, so I'm not convinced that this new venture will bring anything particularly innovative to the table 🤷‍♂️

I'm lovin' how Medusa Cucina Siciliana is takin' over the historic space in Midtown Detroit! 🤩 It just goes to show that even with all the ups and downs, new opportunities can arise from old spaces. The key here is stayin' true to your roots while still innovatin' and adaptin'. Chef Anthony Lombardo's take on traditional Sicilian cuisine is like a breath of fresh air - it's about focusin' on simplicity and harnessing those unique flavors to educate diners. And let's be real, who doesn't love learnin'? 🤓

Medusa better bring their A-game 🤔... another new spot in Midtown means more traffic & noise pollution for the area. Not sure I'm on board with this one... seems like just another trendy restaurant trying to cash in on the 'new experience' vibe 😒. Don't get me wrong, I love good food, but I need a good balance of quality and quiet hours too 💤.

OMG, I'm so down for some authentic Italian grub in Midtown! 🍝👌 I've been hearing great things about this new spot, Medusa Cucina Siciliana, and Anthony Lombardo's skills as a chef can't be beat! 🙌 He's done an amazing job with SheWolf Pastificio & Bar already, so I'm expecting big things from his new venture. The fact that he's putting a focus on traditional Sicilian cuisine is really exciting - it's about time more people got to experience the rich flavors of the Mediterranean region! 🤩 Can't wait to try their dishes and transport myself to the sun-kissed hills of Sicily... sounds like a culinary dream come true! 😋

Wow 🤩! Medusa Cucina Siciliana sounds like an amazing addition to Detroit's Midtown. I'm so down for trying out a restaurant that brings the rich culinary heritage of Sicily to our city. Anthony Lombardo's attention to simplicity and traditional flavors is really exciting, and I love how he's putting his own spin on classic dishes. December/January can't come soon enough for this foodie! 😋

I'm so stoked about Medusa Cucina Siciliana opening up in Midtown! It's like, you've got this historic space that's been around for ages, but it's never really found its groove, you know? And then comes chef Anthony Lombardo with his Italian flair and passion for Sicilian cuisine... it's a match made in heaven 🍝💫. I love how he's keeping it simple with traditional ingredients, but also putting his own spin on things - that sounds like such a great way to learn about the rich culinary heritage of Sicily 😊. And can we talk about the vibe? Immersive dining experience that transports you to the sun-kissed hills and coastal towns of Sicily? Sold! I'm counting down the days till late December or early January... bring it on 🎉

🤔 medusa sounds like another overhyped italian place in detroit... think they're gonna mess up the sicilian vibes with their own spin 🙄... remember when smith & co took over that space and it was just so mediocre? don't wanna be wrong, but this whole renovation thing just seems like a fancy paint job to me 😒
