A New Chapter for Detroit's Midtown: Medusa Cucina Siciliana Set to Open in Historic Space
In a neighborhood known for its culinary experimentation, a new restaurant concept is ready to take the stage. Located at 664 Selden St. in Detroit's Midtown, Medusa Cucina Siciliana is preparing to open its doors, marking the latest addition to a building that has seen its fair share of short-lived eateries.
The historic space has been home to a revolving door of concepts, including Smith & Co., Vigilante Kitchen + Bar, and Epiphany – Nain Rouge Kitchen. But with Medusa Cucina Siciliana, chef Anthony Lombardo and his team are poised to bring a fresh perspective to the neighborhood.
As the co-owner of popular Italian restaurant SheWolf Pastificio & Bar just a block away, Lombardo is no stranger to Detroit's food scene. However, Medusa will serve up a distinctly different culinary experience, with dishes inspired by the cuisine of Sicily and the broader Mediterranean region.
"When it comes to our menu, we're going for simplicity," Lombardo told Hour Detroit magazine. "We're using traditional ingredients like olive oil, capers, olives, tomatoes, and anchovies, but we're not afraid to put our own spin on things." By focusing on the unique flavors and traditions of Sicily, Medusa aims to educate diners about the rich culinary heritage of this often-overlooked region.
With a renovation underway by Patrick Thompson Design, Medusa is expected to open its doors in late December or early January. As the space undergoes a transformation, fans of Lombardo's work can look forward to an immersive dining experience that promises to transport diners to the sun-kissed hills and coastal towns of Sicily.
For now, the buzz surrounding Medusa Cucina Siciliana suggests that this new restaurant concept is one not to be missed. With its unique blend of traditional flavors and modern flair, Medusa is set to become a standout addition to Detroit's thriving food scene.
