Liverpool man charged after Antoine Semenyo racially abused

Liverpool man charged with racial abuse after Antoine Semenyo targeted during match at Anfield.

A 47-year-old man from Liverpool has been charged with racially abusing Bournemouth footballer Antoine Semenyo during a Premier League match at Anfield. The incident occurred on August 15, when the Ghanaian international reported being subjected to racist abuse by a fan during the game.

The match was temporarily suspended in the 29th minute after Semenyo flagged the abuse to referees. Liverpool went on to win the match 4-2, their Premier League opener.

Merseyside Police said a man had been identified and removed from Anfield at the time of the incident. Mark Mogan, 47, of Templehill Close, Dovecot, has now been charged with a racially aggravated section 5 public order offence.

Mogan was given conditional bail and is set to appear at Liverpool Magistrates' Court on December 22.

๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ what's wrong with people these days? can't even watch a football match without being a racist ๐Ÿ™„. i feel so sorry for Antoine Semenyo, it's just not right that someone would do that to him in public ๐Ÿ˜”. the police are doing their job by charging this guy and i hope he gets the punishment he deserves ๐Ÿ’ช. but at the same time, i wish people could be more understanding and respectful towards each other ๐Ÿค. we should all be able to enjoy a game without being subjected to abuse ๐Ÿ‘Ž.

๐Ÿ˜ฌ This latest incident highlights the ongoing issue of racism in sports, particularly in England's football culture ๐Ÿด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ฅ๓ ฎ๓ ง๓ ฟ. The fact that a Liverpool fan was charged with racist abuse during a match at Anfield, one of the most iconic stadiums in the world, is a stark reminder of the work still to be done ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ. The temporary suspension of the match and the removal of the abuser from the ground were positive steps, but it's disheartening to see that this incident occurred in the first place ๐Ÿ’”. It's essential for fans, players, and authorities to come together to address this issue and create a more inclusive and respectful atmosphere at football matches โšฝ๏ธ.

Umm, can't believe this is still happening in 2025 ๐Ÿคฏ. Like, we should've had way more progress by now, you know? I mean, racism is still a huge issue, especially when it comes to football. It's just frustrating that people think they can get away with treating others like dirt, just because they're in a crowded stadium and nobody's watching.

I feel for Antoine Semenyo, poor guy was subjected to abuse on the pitch ๐Ÿค•. And 4-2 win or not, it doesn't matter if you won or lost, there's no excuse for that kind of behaviour. I hope Mark Mogan gets what's coming to him when he appears in court.

It's also a shame that it took a temporary suspension and a fan being removed to get the match stopped. Can't we do better than that? Like, can't we just have an automatic ejection for racist abuse or something? It's time to step up our game, imo ๐Ÿ™„.

can't believe this is still happening in 2025 ๐Ÿคฏ people's behavior during sports events are just unbelievable, like we're living in the 90s all over again when it comes to racism... i mean, what is wrong with these fans? a guy gets away with verbally abusing someone from another country and now he's being charged? good on the police for taking action, but it's about time our football stadiums had more security measures in place to prevent this kind of thing from happening again... we need to educate ourselves, our kids, and our community about respect and inclusivity, especially during these big matches ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ

man this is getting outta hand ๐Ÿ™„ how can one guy be allowed to ruin the experience of an entire player & his fans just because he's being a racist ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ what if someone had done that to him or his family? wouldn't there be serious consequences for them? seems like some people think they're above the law ๐Ÿค‘ anyway, hope Semenyo is okay after that traumatic experience ๐Ÿ˜”

I'm so surprised this guy got away for so long, considering how bad the abuse must've been ๐Ÿคฏ. Four years of playing in the Premier League and still having to deal with that crap? It's just not right. And what really gets me is that he won the match anyway, like it was some kind of badge of honor or something ๐Ÿ˜’. The fact that the police only charged him now is a major letdown. They should've taken action sooner, considering how many people have been caught doing the same thing and getting off scot-free. It's just another example of how the justice system doesn't always work in favor of the victims ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ.

๐Ÿ˜’ come on people, you're all gonna sit there and say "oh racism is never acceptable"? well let me tell you something, I've been to Anfield loads of times and it's a wild stadium, everyone's having fun... but that don't mean someone's gonna take the mickey out of some poor bloke from Ghana. ๐Ÿค” it's just football, can't we all just chill? ๐Ÿ™„

Ugh man I'm so frustrated about this ๐Ÿ˜ก. Like what's wrong with people in Liverpool? Can't they control themselves during matches? It's not like it's a new thing either, we've been hearing about racism in football for ages ๐Ÿค•. And now someone's actually getting charged for it, which is good but also kinda belated don't you think? ๐Ÿ™„.

It's just so sad that Antoine Semenyo had to go through that ๐Ÿ˜”. I mean, he's just trying to play his game and enjoy himself, and then some moron has to go and ruin it all with racist abuse. It's not right, mate ๐Ÿ‘Ž.

I'm glad the police are taking this seriously though ๐Ÿ’ฏ. And I hope Mark Mogan gets a good slap on the wrist for what he did ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ. We need more people like Antoine Semenyo who can just focus on their game and enjoy themselves without being hassled by idiots ๐Ÿ˜Š.

๐Ÿค” I don't know how many times we have to go through this... Another fan gets caught up in the heat of the moment and it's all over social media before they even step foot in court ๐Ÿ“ฑ. I mean, I get that what happened was unacceptable, but let's take a step back for a second - is one guy really going to change our society by getting charged with this? I'm not saying he shouldn't be held accountable, but do we need the courts and the media to make such an example of him? It feels like every time someone gets caught up in racism, it's splashed all over the news and then... nothing happens ๐Ÿšซ. The focus should be on preventing this sort of thing from happening in the first place, not just punishing those who do get caught ๐Ÿ˜”.

OMG, I'm so glad they're taking this seriously! Racist abuse has no place in football or anywhere else ๐Ÿ™…โ€โ™‚๏ธ. It's sickening that it took a fan being targeted to get someone charged. The fact that the match was suspended and the guy was removed from Anfield shows that the authorities are on top of things.

I'm glad to see Merseyside Police taking action, but I hope Mark Mogan gets the full weight of the law for his actions. It's not just about punishing him, it's also about sending a message that racist abuse won't be tolerated in our communities. Let's keep up the good work and make sure everyone feels safe to enjoy their football ๐ŸŸ๏ธ๐Ÿ’ช

just heard about this... cant believe it's happening in liverpool, a city that's supposed to be all about the football ๐Ÿ˜•, not racism ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ. can't just let people get away with abusing someone like that. i feel bad for semenyo, he must've been so scared and uncomfortable during the game โšฝ๏ธ. hopefully mogan gets the message and stays out of trouble from now on ๐Ÿคž. it's sad to see people behaving like this in a place where everyone comes together to watch a match ๐Ÿ’”

It's really disheartening to see instances like this still persist in modern society ๐Ÿค•. The fact that it took a temporary suspension of the game for someone to speak out against the abuse is concerning, as it implies that some people feel they can get away with such behavior without consequences โฐ. I'm glad the police were able to identify and charge Mark Mogan with a racially aggravated public order offence, but I worry that this might be just the tip of the iceberg ๐ŸŒŠ.

We need to do more to create a culture where hate speech is not tolerated, and people feel safe reporting incidents without fear of retaliation ๐Ÿ“. The fact that Liverpool went on to win the match after the suspension suggests that some fans were unaware of or didn't care about the abuse, which highlights the need for education and awareness campaigns around this issue ๐Ÿค.

Ultimately, it's up to us as a society to demand better from each other and hold people accountable when they engage in such behavior ๐Ÿ’ช.

Ugh, I'm still fuming about this... Back in my day, we used to have fans who were all about the game, not making life hell for others. This just seems like another example of how some people think they can get away with stuff because no one's watching ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ. I mean, what's wrong with these guys? Can't they see they're not just hurting the player, but also ruining the game and their own reputation? It's just so frustrating...

Ugh, this is just so frustrating ๐Ÿค•. I mean, can't we all just get along? A football match should be about the game, not about taking shots at each other's cultures. It's a shame that it took Antoine Semenyo to have to deal with some hate, and even then, he had to take time out of his game because of it ๐Ÿ˜”.

And now, this guy Mark Mogan gets charged for what? Just being vocal? I mean, I get where the police are coming from, but can't we have a conversation about this in a more constructive way? It feels like he just got picked out of thin air... and now he's facing some serious consequences. Hopefully, this sparks a bigger conversation about racism in football, because if not, it'll just be another ticking time bomb waiting to happen โšฝ๏ธ๐Ÿ’ฅ
