Thai Richards Completes Daring Subway Jogging Quest Through NYC's 25 Lines and Beyond
Thai Richards, a seasoned ultra-marathon runner from Brooklyn, has achieved an extraordinary feat, running alongside every single subway line in New York City. The grueling task took him two years to complete, with the final leg concluded on Tuesday night as he jogged through pouring rain along the 4 train line from Woodlawn in the Bronx to Crown Heights.
Richards' journey began last fall with a run along the A train, spanning nearly 34 miles from Inwood to Coney Island. He followed suit, tackling the F train for approximately 27 miles from Jamaica, Queens to Manhattan and down to Brooklyn's Coney Island. Over the past two years, Richards ticked off every subway line, meticulously mapping his routes and documenting his progress on social media.
Throughout his epic run, Richards was accompanied by a unique blend of training gear and everyday essentials β including beer bottles, three gold chains, and a Yankees jersey. He frequently stopped to record video updates for his thousands of followers, proclaiming the distance he'd traveled with each triumphant declaration.
"I've never heard of anybody running any of the train lines," Richards recalled, "so I was like, 'Let's get this f---ing going.' It looked daunting at first, but I took my time, and it became one hell of a feat." The 35-year-old model's quest not only tested his physical endurance but also granted him a profound understanding of the city's history.
Richards frequently shared fascinating facts about the subway system, including the significance of New York's first subway lines (the 4, 5, and 6 trains) and the Staten Island Railway's former ownership by the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad. His experiences have allowed him to appreciate the ever-changing landscape of his hometown Brooklyn.
As Richards concluded his final leg along Eastern Parkway towards Utica Avenue terminal on the 4 train line, there was no crowd waiting to celebrate his achievement. However, he did capture a triumphant video for his followers, proudly declaring, "From the BX to BK. The 4 line, that's it...MTA, I ran you all."
