Man... it's crazy how much things have changed since I was in my early twenties
. Back then, we used to volunteer at the soup kitchen on the Lower East Side and serve like, a hundred people on Thanksgiving Day. Now it seems like every single organization in the city is stepping up to help those in need. The numbers are insane - 600 meals at the Adam Clayton Powell State Office Building alone? That's wild!
And I love that City Councilmember Yusef Salaam is hosting a community feast, too. It just goes to show that even in these crazy times, there's still room for kindness and generosity. The Bowery Mission has been doing this for over a century, and it warms my heart to see them continuing the tradition.
I'm also feeling good about Queens Borough President Donovan Richards teaming up with JJ Johnson to serve over 6,000 meals. That's just incredible! And Xavier Mission's annual Thanksgiving Day dinner for seniors and folks with disabilities? Absolutely wonderful. It's like we're coming full circle and doing things better than ever before
.
I'm not sure what the future holds, but one thing's for sure - this is a great time to be living in New York City. We've got our differences, but when it counts, people come together to make a difference
