Where to get a free Thanksgiving Day meal in NYC

New Yorkers in need will be able to indulge in a free Thanksgiving Day feast, thanks to a network of food pantries and organizations working together to provide for those who can't afford a traditional holiday meal. With rising levels of food insecurity in the city, these groups are stepping up to offer a welcome respite to those struggling.

The Adam Clayton Powell State Office Building in Harlem will serve 600 meals between 9am and noon on Thanksgiving Day, with distribution to several nonprofits that will then pass them along to their own networks. Later that day, City Councilmember Yusef Salaam will host a community feast for pre-registered guests at the same location.

The Bowery Mission has been serving its annual Thanksgiving Day meal since 1879 and this year is no exception. A hot breakfast will be available from 8am to 9am, followed by Thanksgiving meals between 11:30am and 4pm on the sixth floor of their facility at 90 Lafayette Street.

For those with a little farther to travel, the Holy Apostles Soup Kitchen in Manhattan will serve about 500 people on Thanksgiving Day itself and again on the Friday after. Their meal includes all the traditional fixings – roasted turkey, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, and apple cider.

On Wednesday of Thanksgiving Week, New York Common Pantry is hosting a free lunch from 1:30 to 3:30pm at their East Harlem facility at 8 East 109th Street. The pantry has seen an unprecedented surge in enrollment this week – over 118% more than last year's numbers.

Meanwhile, Queens Borough President Donovan Richards and chef JJ Johnson are teaming up for a major meal giveaway. On Wednesday morning, the three will present over 6,000 meals to nonprofits at Queens Borough Hall. Later that day, they'll host a community feast for pre-registered guests.

For those with disabilities or senior status, Xavier Mission is hosting an annual Thanksgiving Day dinner from noon to 2pm at their Hurtado Hall facility in Manhattan.

πŸ€” So the city's like doing its part to help out folks who are struggling financially during the holidays. It's a good thing too, 'cause it seems like some of these food banks and shelters have seen a pretty big spike in need lately. I mean, 118% more people signing up for meals at New York Common Pantry this week is crazy. And with over 6k meals to give out in Queens alone... it's clear that there's still a lot of people who are going without during the holidays. 🀝 On the one hand, I'm all for showing some kindness and generosity to those who need it most. But on the other hand, shouldn't we be doing more to address the root causes of food insecurity in the first place? πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ What do you guys think?

🀝🏽 Food 4 all 🍴❀️ is what NYC needs on Thanksgiving 😊. These food pantries & orgs are the real MVPs πŸ’ͺ, gettin' those who need it most fed 🍽️! City Councilmember Yusef Salaam doin his part πŸ‘ hosting a community feast in Harlem πŸŽ‰.

Risin' levels of food insecurity are no joke πŸ˜•, but these groups are makin' a difference 🌈. The Bowery Mission's been servin' up Thanksgiving meals since 1879 πŸ“†, talk about consistency! πŸ™Œ New York Common Pantry seein' an unprecedented surge in enrollment πŸš€, that's amazing news πŸ’₯!

Queens Borough President Donovan Richards and chef JJ Johnson teaming up for a major meal giveaway πŸ€πŸ‘¨β€πŸ³ is the definition of community spirit ❀️. And Xavier Mission's annual Thanksgiving Day dinner is a blessing πŸ‘ to those with disabilities or senior status πŸ™.

Food 4 all, every day πŸ€—! We need more of this love & kindness ❀️ in our city πŸŒ†.

Man, it's crazy how some ppl in NYC can't even get a decent meal on Thanksgiving 🀯🍽️! But y'know what's awesome? All these organizations comin' together to help those in need πŸ™ŒπŸ’•. I mean, the Bowery Mission has been servin' meals since 1879, that's dedication right there πŸ‘. And with all these different locations poppin' up, it's like a whole city is lookin' out for each other ❀️.

I think what's most impressive is how these organizations are workin' together to make sure everyone has somethin' to be thankful for πŸ™. From the 600 meals at City Councilmember Salaam's office to the 6,000+ meals in Queens, it's clear that people care about their neighbors and want to make a difference ❀️.

We should all take a page out of these community groups' books and start showin' some love and kindness to those around us πŸ’–. We don't have to be in need ourselves to spread the joy 🌈.

omg u gotta know about this 🀯 so like there's these huge food pantries & orgs in NYC that r workin together 2 provide free Thanksgiving meals 4 people who can't afford it πŸ™ they got lots of locations set up all over the city, from harlem to manhattan to queens...its literally a lifesaver for some ppl. & i heard there's like super popular chefs & politicians gettin involved too 🀝 jj johnson is servin up meals in queens & donovan richards is helpin out with a huge giveaway 4 nonprofits & all that. its really beautiful seein all these ppl comin together 2 make a diff

I'm so down on this 🀩 New Yorkers doing good deeds for the less fortunate on Thanksgiving πŸ™ Its not just about food tho its a bigger vibe of community and giving back ❀️ The fact that they got nonprofits and city officials teaming up to make it happen is actually really inspiring πŸ’ͺ Those 600 meals at the Adam Clayton Powell State Office Building in Harlem? That's like, a whole lot of love πŸ€— And I'm loving that Xavier Mission has an annual Thanksgiving Day dinner for seniors with disabilities - they're all about inclusivity and accessibility πŸŽ‰ This is what Thanksgiving should be about πŸ™Œ

I gotta say, it's kinda weird how all these people are stepping up to help out others on Thanksgiving. I mean, isn't that just another example of government handouts or something? πŸ€” And what's with the community feasts and meal giveaways? It just seems like they're trying to make up for the fact that we've got so many problems in this country.

I'm not saying it's a bad thing per se, but I'd rather see people use their own resources to help out instead of relying on organizations and government programs. And what about the cost? I'm sure those community feasts are gonna be expensive. Who's footing the bill here?

Plus, with all these free meals popping up everywhere, it just seems like a slippery slope. Next thing you know, we'll have free housing and healthcare too. πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

omg its insane how many orgs r working together to make sure ppl in nyc who cant afford a traditional turkey dinner get fed!! like i know its been a tough year for alot of people but this just shows theres still so much good out there πŸ™

i wasnt even aware of all these options till i saw this thread last week lol now im totally gonna check them out if my fam needs help with food or something. city councilmember yusef salam is a lifesaver btw, hosting a community feast in harlem sounds like such a beautiful thing ❀️

omg u cant believe how lucky ppl r in nyc!! πŸ™Œ they got these amazing orgs workin together 2 help out those who are strugglin 2 make ends meet on thanksgiving day its so heartwarming 2 see ppl comin 2gthr 2 share what little they have w/ others who need it most i mean like the bowery mission has been doin this 4eva since 1879 lol that's dedication xx these orgs r literally changin lives 1 meal at a time 😊

Man, its so heartbreaking to think about people struggling to find a decent meal on Thanksgiving πŸ€•. But on the flip side, I gotta give it up to all these amazing organizations that are stepping up to help out. Like, can you imagine getting 600 meals in one place? That's insane! 🀯 And to see so many different groups coming together to make sure everyone has something to be thankful for... its truly beautiful ❀️.

And the ones that are catering to specific communities like seniors and people with disabilities? That's just the icing on the cake 🍰. Its not just about feeding bodies, its about showing up for people when they need it most. So here's to all these heroes doing their part! πŸ™Œ

😊 I'm so touched to see all these amazing organizations coming together to help those who really need it on Thanksgiving Day. It's not just about the food, it's about showing compassion and care for people who might be struggling. Food insecurity is a real thing in NYC and it's heartbreaking to think that some families have to go without a proper meal during the holidays. These groups are doing incredible work and I'm so grateful they're stepping up to make a difference πŸ™. Can you imagine if we all did something like this for someone else? The ripple effect would be amazing!

🀝 I think what's really cool about this is how community comes together when people are struggling. It's not just about the food itself, but about the people who care enough to make a difference. It's a reminder that we're all in this together and that our individual actions can have a ripple effect on those around us. I mean, someone has to be the one to start it off, right? 🌟

πŸ™ these groups are doing some amazing work 🀝, making sure everyone has a decent meal on the big day. food insecurity is still a huge issue in NYC and it's awesome to see people coming together to help each other out 🍽️. can't even imagine having to rely on soup kitches for every meal πŸ˜”

omg I'm so down for this πŸ™Œ like New Yorkers are literally the best when it comes to giving back to the community. food insecurity has been a thing for ages and its awesome to see all these organizations coming together to make a difference. I mean, 6k meals from queensborough hall? that's crazy talk! 🀯 and can we talk about how blessed are those who get to enjoy a hot breakfast with turkey and mashed potatoes on thanksgiving day? πŸ½οΈπŸ˜‚ some people really have it easy

🍽️ I'm low-key impressed by the networks of food pantries and organizations working together in NYC to provide a free Thanksgiving feast for those in need πŸ™Œ. It's crazy how much demand there is, especially with rising levels of food insecurity πŸ€•. 118% more people needing help at New York Common Pantry this year? 🚨 That's some serious community love πŸ’•. I'm also loving the teamwork between chefs and local leaders like JJ Johnson and Donovan Richards, getting 6k+ meals to those who need it most πŸ΄πŸ‘.

But what really gets me is how this initiative brings together different organizations and government spaces – like the Adam Clayton Powell State Office Building serving up food for several nonprofits – it's all about creating a ripple effect of kindness 🌈. NYC is doing some amazing community-building work here, especially during the holidays when people need it most πŸŽ„β€οΈ. It just goes to show that even in times of scarcity, there's always room for more love and compassion ❀️.

man, gotta say, its crazy how ppl r willing 2 go 2 lengths 4 others 🀯 especially when its about feedin them who need it most. like, the fact that we got all these orgs workin 2gthr 2 provide free meals 4 those in need is just awesome πŸ’• and I love how ppl r comin together 2 make a difference. i mean, City Councilmember Yusef Salaam hostin a community feast 4 pre-registered guests? that's just the kinda leadership we need πŸ™Œ

omg this is amazing!!! 6k meals just for NYC? its not enough tho, we should be doing more πŸ™„ lets say like 10k or more, think about all the single moms and low-income families struggling to make ends meet, we gotta step it up! and can we pls talk about the bowery mission serving food since 1879?! thats some real dedication right there πŸ˜‚

the good news about free thansgiving meals is making me think of how our society should be helping more people in need 🀝🍽️. we have these amazing food pantries and organizations working together to make sure everyone has a decent meal, even if they can't afford it.

i'm thinking that with 6k+ meals being distributed across the city on thansgiving day alone, we're making progress towards a more equal society πŸŽ‰. but we still have a long way to go, and i think its great that local govts are supporting these efforts πŸ’•

anyway, here's a simple diagram of what's going on:
```
+---------------+
| Food Pantries |
+---------------+
|
| Non-profits
v
+---------------+ +---------------+
| City Council | | Queens Borough |
| Member Yusef | | President Donovan|
| Salaam | | Richards & Chef JJ|
+---------------+ +---------------+
|
| Community Feasts
v
+---------------+
| Xavier Mission |
+---------------+
(and many more orgs involved in this network)
```
it's a big team effort, and i'm grateful for people like these who are making a difference πŸ™

I gotta say, food insecurity in the city is getting outta control! Like, can't we just make sure everyone's got a decent meal on Thanksgiving? It's crazy that organizations have to step up like this, but I guess it shows people care πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ. The Bowery Mission has been doing their annual thing since 1879, that's some serious dedication πŸ™Œ. And with all these events happening across the city, I'm sure a lot of folks are gonna be grateful for the help. But seriously, can't we just make this a standard thing? Like, food for everyone on Thanksgiving, no questions asked? It sounds too good to be true, but I guess it's about time we start prioritizing people over profits πŸ€‘.

I'm actually kinda impressed that NYC is stepping up to help out people in need on Thanksgiving 🀝🏽. I mean, we all know how expensive the holidays can be, especially for those who are struggling. But it's awesome to see so many organizations and even a Borough President coming together to make sure everyone has something to eat on Turkey Day. The fact that there are like 6 different places serving meals, from Harlem to Queens, is just amazing 🀩. I'm not gonna lie, when I was in college, my mom would always say we're lucky if we had a decent dinner on the holidays. But seeing all this stuff going down in NYC makes me feel grateful for how things are looking here...
